Patricia Ruth “Patsy” Darilek, 80, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Patricia was born March 17, 1940 in Gonzales to Louis and Angelina Volf Malatek. She married Michael Joseph Darilek on June 20, 1959 at St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales. Patricia was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Czech Heritage Society of Texas, the Catholic Daughters of America and the St. James Altar Society.

Patricia was born in her family home in Gonzales County. The youngest of four girls, she was always a challenge for her older sisters growing up on the farm. She loved animals and always had a pet dog next to her side. During high school she worked at the local Dairy Mart and married her high school sweetheart in 1959 at St. James Catholic church after graduating from Gonzales High School in 1958. Patsy and Mike lived in San Antonio for 31 years and moved back to Gonzales in 1986 to take over the family ranch that she grew up on. She shared her many talents with others throughout the community where she could make a difference. She loved working with children and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Patricia Ruth Darilek is survived by her loving family; husband of 61 years, Michael Joseph Darilek; daughter and sons-in-law, Peggy Suzanne and Jerry Shepherd, Brenda Lea and Jimmy Tuma all of Gonzales, sisters; Elsie Stepan of Burleson and Evelyn Wilkinson of Cedar Creek, grandchildren; Justin Shepherd “Morgan,” Andrew Shepherd “Nicki,” Kaitlyn Tuma, Kassidy Tuma, Bailey Blair and Danni Blair. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Lilian “Lily” Malatek.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2020 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with recitation of the Holy Rosary following at 6 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2020 in St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Jason Martini officiating. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jerry Shepherd, Jimmy Tuma. Justin Shepherd, Andrew Shepherd, Tommy Schurig and Kenneth Kuntschik. Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852 or the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, PO Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284-1125. To Mike, Peggy, Brenda and family as well as all of the dear members of Patsy's extended family, we send our heartfelt condolences on her passing. We fondly remember Patsy--she was always smiling and full of zest for life. It was clear that she dearly loved her family and was very involved with their activities. This is where we would often visit as we too had grandchildren in the same school and we would catch up on things. More recently, there was a chance meeting sometimes before the virus shutdown and after one of Patsy's serious bouts with illness. She and Mike were parked at the Post Office and Marvin and I were there as well. There she was waving and smiling, and we went over to their car and had a short but sweet visit. This is how we will remember Patsy and we too will miss her.
Our love and sympathy to all of Patsy's family,
Marvin and Lillian Barta
