Garrett Clyde Miller was ready to be with His Lord and family in Heaven, joining them on Monday, October 12, 2020. He was born to Alice Miller and Lanty Mollahan on July 3, 1927 in Elmira, Braxton County, West Virginia. He married Layne D. Hasty on December 1, 1982.

Garrett was a United States World War II Navy Veteran and mined for coal in West Virginia. After the war, he worked for the Chicago Post Office unloading mail cars at night while attending school during the day. Hospice asked if he liked the military and Garrett responded: “Except for the birth of my children, the military was the happiest days of my life.”

He was an entrepreneur, moving to Texas after graduation and had a successful 30-year appliance and service store in McAllen. He received his real estate broker license as well as an associate degree in real estate law. He helped manage a commercial real estate business in San Antonio. After retiring, he managed the La Posada apartments in Gonzales.

Fishing and ranching were a love of his as he dabbled in cattle and worked with his son in a dozer company.
He is survived by his loving wife Layne and step-son, Anthony Lee Jones, sister, Naomi Given, grandchildren, Stacey Johnson and husband Paul, Sean Miller and wife Karla, Daylon and Mary Miller, Larry Dale, Jr., and Stephen Miller, and two daughters-in-law, Cecilia Miller and Patricia Miller. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, which were such a blessing in his life: Bethaney and Christopher Johnson, Kelsey Miller, Lucas, Hailey and Wyatt Miller.

He wanted everyone to know how much he loved and appreciated his niece, Mary Alice Given. She and her mother, Naomi, were Garrett and Layne’s best friends and travel buddies. All his nieces and nephews were all a part of his heart.

His parents preceded him in death as well as his brothers, Baker Edward White, Wesley Olan May and best friend and brother-in-law, James Given. He was also preceded in death by his sisters; Evelyn Jarvis, Oleta McFall and Billie Sue Williams. His biggest heartache was to be preceded in death by his sons, Arthur Garrett, Stephen Clyde, and Larry Dale Miller.

“I leave to my grand and great-grandchildren this advice: work hard, be kind and know God, and you will go far.”
