Michael’s father worked in education and coaching and eventually Mike’s father was hired as curriculum director for the Gonzales Independent School System where he also coached for a short period of time. Mike played basketball for the Apaches and graduated from Gonzales High School with the Class of 1967. Mike attended Southwest Texas State Teacher’s College before going to work for Perry’s. He worked his way up to store manager in Brenham and later stores in Port Lavaca and Alvin. Mike changed careers and was very successful in the sales of office supplies in Alvin and Houston. Mike was a vested partner in several successful businesses and worked at E-Barr Feed and Supply in the Trailer Sales division. Mike was a fierce competitor. He loved sports and dearly loved his University of Arkansas Razorbacks. He loved card games from canasta to poker and he didn’t play to play, Mike played to win. Mike was a very social person, he enjoyed interacting with people. Mike, in the estimation of his nieces and nephews, was the best uncle in the world. He loved to play with the kids whether it was card games, water volleyball in his pool or shooting pool in his den, Mike loved to entertain them. He delighted in playfully teasing them which always brought smiles and laughter. Mike enjoyed life and he lived it abundantly.
