Margaret Elizabeth “Peggy” Baros passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017. Peggy was born June 18, 1923 to Ellsworth and Mary Peck in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. She and her brothers were raised by her mother and grandmother following her fathers death in a coal mine explosion when Peggy was 5 years old. Following the outbreak of World War II, Peggy joined the U.S. Navy WAVES, serving from August 7, 1943 to December 7, 1945, ending her naval service as a Yeoman First Class. When the war ended in Europe, she celebrated with thousands of other Americans in Times Square and celebrated the end of the war in Japan in San Francisco. She exemplified many of the characteristics of the Greatest Generation; hard, honest work, loving commitment to her family and service to others. No one had a better friend than Peggy Baros who was always available to chauffer them to the doctor or other appointments, caring for her friends and family whenever she was needed. Peggy could grow anything and make it look beautiful, rescuing many abused plants from her family and bringing them back to life. She was a shopper extraordinaire, exhausting all who tried to keep up with her. She loved to travel, especially with good friends and was never happier than when winning at Poker and Chickenfoot. Above all, her sons knew they could always count on her for support and encouragement even when life situations were most difficult. She was a member of the Gonzales First United Methodist Church, Gonzales Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the National WAVE Association in Washington D.C. and WAVE Unit #101 in San Antonio. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde; her parents, her brothers, John and Fritz Peck and son Tommy Douglas. She is survived by sons Larry Douglas and wife Becky; Garry Douglas and granddaughters Daria Brown, and Monica Ellis and husband Travis; great-grandchildren Jason Brown and wife Samantha, Erika Brown, Dylan and Rylan Brown; and Aven Ellis and Kinley Ellis. Visitation will be held from 8 until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations will be welcome at the Gonzales Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Gonzales Youth Center or the First United Methodist Church.
