Linda Sue Hunter, 72, of Ottine, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018. The daughter of Ikie and Elizabeth Hindmann Wunsch, she was born on November 8, 1945. Linda was the Valedictorian of the Class of 1964 at Smiley High School. She graduated from Texas Lutheran College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and received a Master of Arts in English from Southwest Texas State University. Linda was a teacher in the Gonzales Independent School District for many years and an English professor at Southwest Texas State University and Victoria College. In addition to her love as a teacher, Linda cared passionately about her work with T.A.A.S.A. , the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault and the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center. During the past few years, Linda was Editor of the Civic Research Institutes national "Sexual Assault Report". She served as president of the TAASA board, board member of Gonzales Christian Assistance Ministries (GCAM), Gonzales Learning and Career Center, and was active with the Gonzales County Democratic Party. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Messiah. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Stephen Hunter of Ottine; daughter Janna Christian and husband Brent of Gonzales; son John Mark Zavadil and wife Dee of Gonzales; sister Lana Book of Kerrville; brother Tim Mitchell of Smiley; grandchildren: April Noahubi and husband David, Mitchell Christian, Wesley Zavadil and Kelly Christian; great-grandchildren: Haley Bairrington, Kylee Bairrington and Blake Noahubi. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Randall “Sport” Bairrington, Jr. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
