Obituary for John Rollie Morgan

Print
John Rollie Morgan, 72, of Shiner, entered eternal life on Saturday, April 14, 2018. John was born to Louis Vastine and Myrtle Lee Bozeman Morgan on January 17, 1946 in Montgomery, Alabama. John married Gayle Ann Webb on July 4, 1970 at St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales. Together, they had one daughter, Meagan. John’s early years were surrounded by his brothers and sisters. Most of his younger years were spent outdoors, exploring and getting in trouble. John joined the United States Marine Corps immediately after high school, and he served his country for four years, two of which were spent overseas in Vietnam. John was proud of his military service, and he spent most of his life giving back to various Veterans’ organizations. John was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Doug Herrle Chapter #61. John also enjoyed traveling with his family. Whether it was to Disney World, Coushatta (to lose money), to visit family, or just a day trip, he cherished all the time he spent with family. John was a man after God’s own heart, and his quiet demeanor always made him the calm in the storm. He was a man of few words, and when he spoke, all those close to him knew to listen. John Morgan is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Meagan and Justin Campion of Gonzales, grandson, John Owen Campion, sisters Diane and husband James “Squeaky” Cappel of Danbury and Sonya AEolia and husband Charles Campbell of New Braunfels, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Gayle (and, because of this, he will spend all of eternity searching for things she put in a good place while waiting for him), his parents, brothers, Buddy Morgan and Herf McDonald and a sister, Theresa “TC” Morgan Ashley. A rosary will be recited Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 18 at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Pesek as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery. Pallbearers are Justin Campion, Joey Vinklarek, Sherman Baker, Jimmy Yow, Ronald Fischer, Terry Goldman, and Jason Campion. Honorary pallbearers include James Cappel, Marshall Riley, Patrick Janak, and all members of the Disabled American Veterans. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Doug Herrle Chapter #61, PO Box 325, Seguin, TX 78156, American Legion Post 41, PO Box 973, Lockhart, TX 78644, or the veteran’s organization of your choice.
