Frances Elizabeth “Fran” Jackson, 90, of Gonzales, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016. Fran was born January 31, 1926 in Niagara Falls, NY to Samuel Phillips and Margaretha Elizabeth Marshall Phillips. She married Ralph Evans Jackson on July 3, 1948 in Niagara Falls, NY. She was a faithful and active member of the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, the church choir, Music Club, the Book Club and Alzheimer’s Support Group. Fran was born and raised in rural Niagara Falls, NY; she attended a one room school house and helped her family with the chores common in country living. After graduating high school she married and moved to San Diego with her husband who was serving in the U.S. Navy. She attended college and after the war they moved back to New York where Fran completed her college education graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from New York State College for Teachers at Buffalo. Her husband worked for Burroughs Corporation for 33 years and in that time the family moved several times. Fran was a model stay at home mother, always keeping a loving home for her family while quilting, gardening and cooking with an affection for having a dessert for every supper. Fran was a loving mother and endearing friend. She enjoyed people and cherished her faith and worship services as she was very spiritually minded. After her older children were raised she went back to teaching and taught kindergarten in the Seguin Independent School District, she had taught for nearly 25 years before retiring in 1988. Fran lived a life of giving, giving to her family, her church, her students and to her community. Amidst her life’s altruism, Fran found the time to enjoy things she loved like reading and as a master gardener certainly time spent in her garden was peacefully rewarding. Reflecting upon the life of Frances Elizabeth Jackson Proverbs 31:25-38 captures her loving ways “Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” Fran is survived by her loving children, Susan Celeste McGivney of Athens, Thomas Paul Jackson and his wife Karen Elizabeth of Bastrop, Michael Allen Jackson and his wife Charlene of Louisburg, KS, Pete David Jackson and his wife Dolores of Missouri City, eight grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her adoring husband of 58 years, Ralph Evans Jackson, parents, a brother, George Phillips, and a sister Louise Murray. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in the Episcopal Church of the Messiah with Fr. Randy Melton as celebrant. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Belmont Cemetery. Pallbearers: Tom Jackson, Mike Jackson, Pete Jackson, Adam Jackson, Ben Jackson, and Michael Jackson.
