Obituary for Dorothy Aline Davidek

Dorothy Aline Davidek, 74, of Harwood, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017. Dorothy was born June 13, 1942 in Newport, Arkansas to Benjamin Robert Thorpe and Bessie Aline Wood Thorpe. She married Stephen Randal Davidek on April 1, 1961 in Bay City. Dorothy’s stay in Newark, AK was short lived after her birth, within a few years her family moved to Houston and later Bay City where her father owned and operated a Ben Franklin’s Store. Within the structure of this store Dorothy and most of her siblings learned there are no shortcuts to a job well done and that a job well done pays 50 cents an hour and a little time in the candy room. They also honed their communication skills through customer interaction and that making a customer happy is rewarding in itself. While living in Bay City Dorothy met a Boling, Texas man by the name of Stephen Davidek, the man as mentioned earlier she would marry. They moved to Houston and once Dorothy had her children at an age where she was comfortable returning to work, she went to work as an assistant to a Geophysicist for Exxon Corp. in Houston. She worked in this capacity for 16 years before moving to Harwood with her husband. She loved living in Harwood; she didn’t miss the sights and sounds of big city living in the least, not when the sights and sounds of country living fed her soul with all that nature had to offer. She loved to sit on her porch and watch the birds at her feeders, cap a squirrel with her bb gun all the while doing what she loved most, cross stitching. She was a good cook but would by far enjoy piddling outside in her flower beds or enjoying a cup of coffee as dawn broke or watching the day come to an end with a beautiful sunset. Dorothy loved watching movies and as a devout conservative she enjoyed watching Fox News Channel. Dorothy was a patriot; she was very loyal and unquestionably loving. She had a tremendous memory, uncannily able to recall family stories and family history without hesitation. Clearly family was the primary focus in the lives of Dorothy and her late husband Stephen, Sr. They had enjoyed 54 and one half years marriage before Stephen Sr., passed away Nov. 10, 2015. Theirs was a marriage of compromise and unconditional love and the joy of watching their loving sons mature into good men and their grandchildren blossom into the best part of their lives. Dorothy Aline Davidek is survived by her sons, Stephen Randal Davidek, Jr and his wife Rita of Houston, Lon Allen Davidek of Houston, sisters, Rena Dickerson of Houston, Sue Spencer and her husband W.L. of Harwood, Diana Dietrich and her husband Richard of College Station, brother, Robert Harrison Thorpe and his wife Connie of Magnolia, grandchildren, Cheven Davidek Peirce and her husband Daniel, Tylyn Davidek, Gabrielle Davidek, Avery Davidek, and Grayson Davidek. She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen Randal Davidek, Sr., her parents, and a brother-in-law, E.W. Dickerson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Pastor Allen Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Harwood Cemetery. Pallbearers: Lon Davidek, Steve Davidek, Jr., Scottie Thorpe, Trey Dietrich, David Targoc and Gary Spencer.
