Obituary for Doris Virginia Hartwick

Doris Virginia Hartwick, 81, of Ft. Worth, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018. Doris was born July 16, 1936 in Lemon, Texas to George A. McCray and Maggie Belle Townsend McCray. She married Adolph Balthazar Hartwick on December 21, 1962 in Geronimo, Texas. Doris had been a member of the Full Gospel Church in Leesville. Doris was born in Lemon, TX but the family frequently moved with their father as his work took from many job sites as a crane operator. Early in Doris’s career she managed convenience stores until she accepted the position of manager for Stewart’s Grocery Store in Brazoria. In this time she traveled to Italy and Germany and loved to take rides in the country with her husband just to get away and enjoy the beauty that lies in the countryside. Doris stepped away from the often hectic pace of retail grocery and stepped into the hectic pace of being a full time homemaker. She was a loving and generous mother with a strong will and out spoken nature when such was necessary. She enjoyed tending her rose bushes, flower beds, coloring and watching birds when time presented itself. Doris loved to watch old western movies on the television, John Wayne movies topping her list of must watch movies. She made the best potato salad in the world, at least in her family’s estimation. She was “grandma” to her grandchildren and she cherished moments she got to spend with them. Doris was a simple woman with an abundance of love, a love that is treasured by her husband and family. Doris is survived by her beloved family, husband, Adolph B. Hartwick of Ft. Worth, daughters, Shirley Ann Murillo and her husband Tony of Wildomar, CA, Phyllis Jean Ensor of Ft. Worth, sons, Allen Wayne Busby and wife Sharon of Clute, Elan Dale Busby of Teague, Larry Earl Hartwick and wife Kristi of Rio Rancho, NM, brothers, Johnny Randall McCray, Sr. and wife Carlita of Georgia, Marvin Willis McCray and wife Linda of San Antonio, 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Clifford Ray Busby, sisters, Pernecy Ann Haley, Norma Jean Elder, Wynona Knetig, brothers, S.L. McCray, Samuel McCray, and a great-great-grandson, Jamison Busby. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny McCray, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Kingsbury Cemetery. Pallbearers: Delton Hartwick, Jay Busby, Jimmy Pittman, John Carver, Lawson Hartwick and Landon Hartwick. Honorary pallbearers: Jimmy Whitaker and Matt Busby. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association through alz.org. Friends may leave their condolences to the family by visiting www.seydlerhillfuneralhome.com.
