Merry Christmas from Heaven I love you all dearly Now don't shed a tear, I'm spending my Christmas With Jesus this year! Donald Cuvelier, 84, of Gonzales, Texas, transitioned into eternal life on Friday, December 22, 2017. Donald was born on February 25, 1933, in Gonzales County to Paul Cuvelier and Cordie Mercer Cuvelier. Donald and his siblings grew up on their family’s farm located West of Gonzales. He attended school at the Oak Forest Country School before transferring to Gonzales High School where he graduated with the class of 1952. Although chores always came first, Donald enjoyed swimming in the river and playing games with his brothers and sisters. Shortly after his graduation Donald enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1953. He was a proud Veteran of the Korean War. During his service period Donald received the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal (Korea) and the Korean Service Medal. Upon his return home, he and his brother Edward found pleasure in raising and selling chickens. Donald’s social life was often scheduled around when the chickens needed to be put to bed. Additionally, Donald took pride in his daily adventures as a school bus driver. He drove for the Gonzales ISD for 20+ years, making sure the kids were delivered to and from school safely. Donald was a simple man who loved his family, a good game of dominoes, and a quiet ride down to the river, almost as much as he loved his Lord. He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Gonzales where he looked forward to his time of praise and worship. There is no doubt he was met by the Lord himself with the words; enter good and faithful servant into the place I have prepared for you! In addition to actively being involved with his church, Donald was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and Gonzales Young Farmers. Donald leaves behind Bertha, his wife of 37 years; his loving children Scott Cuvelier and Sherri Schellenberg, her husband Dale; granddaughters Valorie Daniel, and Chelsea Schellenberg and JD Quintanilla; great-grandchildren Reagan and Easton Daniel, Averi and Tessa Quintanilla; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Winston Low of Victoria; sister-in-law Viola Cuvelier of Gonzales; brother-in-law and his wife, Ewell and Wanda Sanders of Gonzales; numerous nieces and nephews; step-daughter Kristi Stanton and her husband Craig; step-sons Ray Rusling and his wife Tara; Ronnie Rusling and his significant other Robin, Bruce and his wife Debra, and numerous step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first born, Wayne Alex, as well as his grandparents, parents, sisters Betty Jean Tharp, Cordelia Sanders and brother Paul Edward Cuvelier. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, with Brother Chris Irving officiating. Interment will follow in the Hermann Son’s Cemetery. Pallbearers are Glenn Blundell, Greg Low, David Pilsner, Bruce Rusling, Ray Rusling, Mike Sanders, and Paul Thomas Tharp. Donald’s family will receive guests starting at 10:00 a.m. All are invited to attend and share their memories.
