Obituary for David Marion Thiede

Print
David Thiede was born November 25, 1934 in Gonzales, Texas and passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 5, 2018 in Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ben Schrader Thiede, parents Otto Henry Thiede and Bonnie Oakes Thiede, and brothers Bill Thiede and Merrill Thiede. He is survived by his daughter Denise Thiede Martindale and husband Tim of Waco, daughter Gail Thiede Brown and husband Steve of Dripping Springs, grand children Quinn and Erica Martindale, great-grandchild Mia of Dallas, grandchildren Zane and Janice Martindale, great-grandchild Zadie of New York City, grandchildren Daniel and Janna Martindale Webbon of Seattle, grandchildren Luke Brown of Austin and Kyle Brown of Georgetown, his sister Annette Hessong of Portland Texas, and numerous beloved family. He called Monthalia, Gonzales, Pettus, Austin, Kilgore, Houston, Mozambique, Angola, Portland Texas, Denver, Waco, and Dripping Springs home. He worked in the oil fields and joined the National Guard while earning his Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. During his time in the National Guard he served in Louisiana during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His legacy includes a family that honors faith, family, community and education. He made detailed maps of the geology of Gonzales and surrounding counties along with giving well attended lectures on oil and gas development in the Gonzales area. For years he managed the family cattle ranch with the help of Bobby and Gray Thiede and Michael Oakes. His hallmark was his generosity, compassion, love for learning, devotion to family, friends, church and community which in turn encouraged others to do their best. He will be missed but the sadness we feel is overshadowed by knowledge that he is reunited with fellow saints singing praises to the Lord Whom he walked and talked with daily. Thank you to family, friends, health care teams, hospice and all who befriended him and our family. Please join the family in prayer or in person at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 in Seydler-Hill Home with Dr. Tim Martindale officiating. Interment will follow in the Monthalia Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers: Ben Ivey, Quinn Martindale, Zane Martindale, Daniel Webbon, Luke Brown Kyle Brown, Michael Oakes and Tim Markham. Memorials may be sent to Seydler-Hill funeral home made payable to Monthalia Lutheran Cemetery Association, Gonzales Memorial Hospital, South Texas Children's Home Ministries or Happy House First United Methodist Church.
