Obituary for William Monroe "Bill" Peeler
William Monroe “Bill” Peeler, 88, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2020 surround by his family. Bill was born in December 5, 1931 in Flatonia to W.M. Peeler and Essie Mae Null Peeler. He was baptized at an early age and faithfully served his Lord throughout his life. Bill was a member of First Baptist Church of Gonzales, where he served as a deacon, and the American Legion Post #40.
Bill attended Gonzales Schools, and later received his GED while serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his induction into the Army, he served at Ft. Bliss with the 247th Field Artillery Missile Battalion quickly working his way up to Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1955. On September 5, 1953, during his service in El Paso, Bill married Minerva Farrell. After his service to the Army concluded he went to work for the Texas Highway Department, Engineering Division where he remained for 25 years until the Engineering department closed in Gonzales. While Bill was working on the construction of Interstate 10, he never saw his home in the daylight -- he was at work from dawn ‘til dusk every day. He later interned with O.A. Rutledge in the water well business and took over the operation when Mr. Rutledge retired. Bill was a water well and windmill repairman for many years. He knew the county and surrounding areas very well. Long after he retired, Bill was still called for advice on water wells and windmills.
In retirement Bill found peace raising cattle, driving his tractor, and maintaining several gardens at his beloved country home. He loved to grow vegetables and share them with everyone. Bill loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. PaPaw cherished his time with all of them and delighted to watch as they enjoyed the go-carts, four-wheelers, and tractor rides.
Bill is survived by his adoring wife of 66 years and 8 months, Minerva Peeler of Gonzales, Son and daughter-in-law, William Ray and Beverley Peeler of Kyle, daughter and son-in-law, Amy Denise Peeler Manning and Bobby of Gonzales, grandchildren, Kelsey Giltner (Daniel), Caitlin Bales (Andrew), Joshua Serrato, and Molly Manning, great-grandchildren, Liam and Max Giltner and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Allan Scott Peeler, parents, stepfather, Otis Halliburton and a sister, Bobbie Sue Hahn.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday evening June 5, 2020 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Seth Pitman and Pastor Ray Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Gonzales Memorial Park. Pallbearers: Josh Serrato, Daniel Giltner, Sam Turk, Mark Hagen, Ralph Raabe, Lynn Cochran, Paul Coffin and Andrew Bales. Honorary pallbearer: Russ Hahn, Randy Adams, Tommy Adams, Tony Ferrell, Jimmy Ferrell, David Rhoades, Charles Rasmussen, and deacons of FBC.
