Obituary for William Lee Carleton
William Lee Carleton, 82, of Gonzales, Texas, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024, in Gonzales, Texas. He was born January 31, 1942, to Harvey Vernon and Oneta Helen Carleton.
William grew up in Gonzales and graduated from Gonzales High School in 1960. He was popular in school for sports, especially his achievements in track, where he attended state meets for three of his four years in school, and also for being a running back for GHS.
William married Sandra Jane Vordenbaum on July 28, 1962, in Gonzales, Texas. They were married for 62 years and had two sons. William had a career in Communications, working for GTE (later Verizon) for about 35 years, and it was during this time that he served as area vice president for the Communications Workers of America Union (CWA). William devoted his life to his family, enjoying a good game of dominoes, little league baseball, and school track meets. He was very involved as a father, attending and filming any activities they were in. He was a spectator for sports and even went to the Summer Olympics in Mexico City in 1968 with his dad and oldest brother Samuel. William was also very in tune with family reunions and researching his family genealogy.
William is survived by his adoring wife Sandra Jane Vordenbaum Carleton, his two sons William Bryce Carleton (Kimberly Rogers) and Timothy Wray Carleton (Janice Marie), his brother Dale Carleton (Shirley), his sister-in-law Patricia Carleton and brother-in-law Griff Singer. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Brittany Michelle Carleton and Brandt Alexander Carleton, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Oneta Carleton, his brother Samuel Vernon Carleton and his sister Evelyn Carleton Singer “Sissy”.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation at Seydler – Hill Funeral Home on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. A funeral service will also take place at Seydler – Hill Funeral Home on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 10:00am officiated by Pastor Robert Ramirez of East Side Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Gonzales Hermann Sons Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Russell Wilke, Brandt Wilke, Chad Denman, Sean DuBose, Michael Selby and Kevin Carleton. Honorary Pallbearers include Charlie Pankey and Tara Carleton.
