Violet Marie Froehner Schauer died Sunday, April 26, 2020 at 100 years of age. She had celebrated her 100th birthday at The Heights of Gonzales peering through the window at her adoring family as they celebrated this monumental event distanced by the threat of Covid-19 which could only keep them physically apart but never their love. Marie was born March 24, 1920 to John and Elsa Raecke Froehner. She married Monroe Schauer on November 10, 1938 in Cost, Texas. Marie was a lifelong member of the Monthalia United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, member of the Mixed Choir, Women’s Circle, and various committees. She was a longtime member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Marie lived in Cost her entire life. She owned and operated her beauty salons, The Downtown Beauty Shop and The Fashionette. Marie also had a shop in her home. Aside from work Marie enjoyed being outside working in her garden instead of doing housework. Marie loved to travel. She and Monroe traveled through many states and after his death, Marie took many bus tours to visit all the other states in the U.S.A., an objective she had long set to achieve. She enjoyed doing things with her grandchildren. A special moment was riding a jet ski while she was in her 80’s. She enjoyed family trips including a trip to Disneyland.
Marie loved socializing and drinking coffee. Her family contributes her daily habit of drinking coffee to her long life! Marie hated drinking water. The last ten years of her life was spent at The Heights of Gonzales where she was involved in all activities and Religious Services. She especially enjoyed the Bible study with Lynn Wilson and Ann Laster. The family deeply appreciated the loving attention given to Marie by her care givers.
Marie Schauer is survived by her loving family: daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Dwight MacAllister, son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Gail Schauer, grandchildren, Keith Schauer “Judy”, Brian Schauer “Mia”, Darren Schauer “Melissa”, Tim MacAllister “Brandi”, Jennifer MacAllister “Amanda”, great-grandchildren, Jill Schauer, Brie Irons “Roy”, Nicki Schauer, Travis Schauer, Trent Schauer, Allyson Schauer, Gregory Joseph MacAllister “Gracie”, Garrett MacAllister “Lily”, Kailey MacAllister, Jordan MacAllister and Kayla Matthews, great-greatgrandchild, Marlow Irons and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Louella Gandre and a grandson, Gregory Ray MacAllister.
A private family graveside will be held Wednesday in the Monthalia United Methodist Cemetery with Pastor Paul Smith officiating. Lots of great memories of Mrs. Marie mostly from growing up around her at church. She did cut our hair quite a few times too!

She was always gracious when we would visit. Loved to hear her stories about she and Monroe going dancing all the way to San Antonio when they were dating. A true lady.
