Valentine Rodriguez Rodela, 71, of Gonzales, Texas passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at The Heights of Gonzales in Gonzales, Texas. Funeral Mass is under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales, Texas and will be held on Tuesday, September, 15, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Saint James Catholic Church in Gonzales, Texas with Father Paul Raaz officiating. Interment will follow at Saint James Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, September, 14, 2014 at 7:00 pm at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Gonzales, Texas with Deacon Terry Brennan officiating. Valentine was born on May 21, 1943 in Waelder, Texas. He was the son of Ramon and Amelia (Rodriguez) Rodela. Valentine enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool. He liked to go and enjoy the peacefulness while fishing. Valentine was a Member of the ELKS Lodge. He retired from Southern Pacific Railroad after 15 years. He is survived by three sons; Roger Rodela of Humbolt, Texas, Raymond Rodela of Mt. Belvieu, Texas, Ruben Rodela of Fresno, California, four daughters; Graciela Rodela of Gonzales, Texas, Christine Escamilla of Baytown, Texas, Nancy Medina and her husband, Julian of Houston, Texas, Christella Cardenas of Houston, Texas, sixteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Ramon and Amelia Rodela, one son; Valentine Rodela, Jr., six brothers; Pete Rodela, Luis Rodela, Frank Rodela, Nate Rodela, Jesse Rodela, John Rodela, four sisters; Pauline Rodela, Trinity Rodela, Janie Rodriguez, and Margarita Castillo.
