Obituary for Timothy Albert Mitchell

Timothy Albert Mitchell, 72, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019. He was born January 8, 1947 in Poteet, Texas to Ikie Wunsch and Elizabeth Hindman Mitchell. He graduated from Smiley High School with the Class of 1965 and joined the United States Navy that following August. Tim served his country honorably and fought bravely against the General Offensive and Uprising of Tet Mau Than of 1968 commonly known as the Tet Offensive in Vietnam. He was discharged in 1969 and briefly went to work as a fireman for the Austin Fire Department before moving back to South Texas and working as a ranch manager.
Tim was a cowboy at heart, he worked hard, played hard and found God in everything nature had to offer. He found peace in working with leather and living in the country, he was a simple but honorable man. He was a man with a host of friends yet was naturally a very independent man. Tim was very close to his sisters, Linda Hunter and his twin sister, Lana Book. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his friends and enjoying the vistas of the United States and fishing when time permitted. Most notably, Tim was a cowboy and in the words of poet C B Rich, “It’s true I care not for the city, with its hustle, bustle and strife. I’ll live out here and feel close to God, happy in this way of life.” Truly, Tim lived his calling, happy in his way of life.
Timothy Albert Mitchell is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Joel and Ariceli Mitchell of Dallas, Chris and Natalie McCaleb of Beaumont, twin sister, Lana Book of Kerrville, grandchildren, Hayden, Logan, Paul, Sabrina and Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Linda Hunt.
