Obituary for Thomas William Rice

Thomas William Rice, of Gonzales, Texas, previously from Houston, Texas was born May 27, 1929 in Akron Ohio to Lillian and Richard Rice, passed away at his home on Monday, June 8, 2020.

Tom was an avid hunter, and loved dancing, cooking and being with family. He worked for Freightliner Trucks for over 50 years starting as a mechanic. He then traveled the world for them as a salesperson, touching ground on every continent except Australia and Antarctica

Thomas is preceded in death by his 3 sisters, Faith, Betty and Margie, a brother, Richard, and 2 sons, David, and Roger.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lydia Rice of Houston, Texas, a daughter, Nancy Seay and husband Kenneth, of Fort Worth, TX, and a son, Thomas "Butch" E. Rice and wife Donna, of Cedar Park, TX.

Tom was a grandfather to 7, great grandfather to 11, and great-great grandfather to 7 grandchildren and leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 9, 2020 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2020 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Monthalia United Methodist Cemetery. Pallbearers: Kyle Tedder, Cody Cook, Buddy Godfrey, Mike Finstead, Nolan Hodges, Shannon Finstead, Ashley Hodges, and Shawn Godfrey. Memorials may be made to Monthalia Methodist Church.

Due to current CDC and State mandates, protective measures regarding social distancing, limited attendance capacity, and use of personal protective masks will be required for the visitation, funeral service, and graveside burial rite. Those remotely symptomatic of COVID-19 are politely asked not to attend. Services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
