Obituary for Shirley Spoon

Shirley Jean Iley Spoon, 76, of Lewisville, Texas, passed into the loving arms of the Lord on Wednesday, July 24, 2019. Shirley was born in Gonzales, Texas on January 19, 1943 and graduated from Gonzales High School in 1960. She earned her Masters Degree from the University of Houston in Victoria while raising a family as a single mother and while teaching elementary education.
Shirley married Bob Spoon on May 20, 1977. She taught elementary school for many years, Shirley enjoyed teaching and was good at it. After living all over Texas, she and Bob retired to Gonzales in 1997. Shirley was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Gonzales and loved to sing in the choir. She was a very talented piano player and enjoyed playing for the local music club in Gonzales.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dean Spoon and her father, Eugene Stayton Iley. Shirley is survived by her mother, Cecil Keck Allert of Austin, sister, Ruthie Renton (John) of Bedias, TX., brothers, Kenneth Iley (Nita) of Gonzales, Gene Iley Jr (Linda) of Ft. Collins, CO and Dale Allert of Austin, son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Terri Caskey of Trophy Club, TX, daughters and son-in-law, Carol and Jarvis Simmons of Callisburg, TX, Kim Spoon and Nancy Spoon of Victoria, grandsons T.K. Caskey of Trophy Club, TX and Blake Spoon of Victoria, and great-grandson, Thomas Robert Spoon.
The family will receive friends at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2019. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 in Gonzales Memorial Park with Pastor Eradio Balverde officiating.
