Obituary for Robert Eugene Brown

Robert “Hoss” Eugene Brown, 78 passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Gonzales, Texas. He was born June 26, 1942 in Anderson, Indiana to Frailey C. and Elzora J. Brown. Bob for short or most notably known as Hoss because of his tall stature, grew up in Anderson. As a young man he enjoyed stock car racing and in 1961 he was the National Crown Winner at Sun Valley Speedway, now known as Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana which is famed for “The Longest Running Stock Car race in the Country”. Later in life he was a car salesman both in Corpus Christi, Texas and San Antonio, Texas. He joined the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2249 in Corpus Christi in 1986 where he served as Worthy President in 1991-1992. He met his wife Bonnie Jean “BJ” through the Eagles Texas State Convention and were married in 1994. He later transferred his membership to Aerie #70 in San Antonio and participated in the Aerie Golf Club. He was awarded Mr. Eagle in 2000-2001. He was an active member at the local, district and state levels. He served as the Texas State Conductor in 2009-2010; Texas State Chaplain in 2010-2011 and as Texas State Trustee from 2011-2013.

He is survived by daughters Kimberly Everman and Christina Kaye Hunt, stepdaughter Jean Floyd, and sister Beverly Sue Weatherford. He has 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frailey C. and Elzora J. Brown; wife Bonnie Jean (BJ) Brown; two sons Robert F. Brown and Bodie A. Brown; three brothers William Lee Laswell, James E. Laswell and John Paul Laswell II; and sister Mary Ann Matucci.

Graveside services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 1:15 p.m. Services will be performed by the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #70.
