Obituary for Oscar Winfred Hotz

Oscar Winfred Hotz, 87, of Victoria, passed away peacefully early Saturday, August 14, 2021. Oscar was born December 4, 1933 in Gonzales to Thomas Winfred Hotz and Alma May Hotz. He married Mary Katherine Hare on November 16, 1957 in Gonzales.

Oscar grew up in Gonzales and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. After marrying Mary Katherine, they moved to Lake Travis and then Luling where he went to work in the oil field working his way up to tool pusher. Oscar worked for Kidd Trucking and the Pat Baker Company. He was a loyal and hardworking man. He worked from sun-up to sun-down and every job got his full attention and best effort. He naturally had an impeccable work ethic and was committed to be an excellent provider for his family.

Oscar loved spending time with his family, for other than work, he believed time spent with family was time well spent. He was a loving and generous husband, father, and grandpa. He loved to go cat fishing, growing watermelons as he enjoyed being outdoors. At any given time, Oscar might be found telling a joke, kidding around with folks, or reminiscing of days gone by with family and friends. He was a fun-loving happy person who naturally drew people to him. There really wasn’t much Oscar wouldn’t do to help a person in need, for he was a gentle, kind, and loving soul. Oscar lived his life as in the scripture of Luke 10:27 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

Oscar is survived by his adoring daughters, Tina Qualls “Regan” of Pleasanton. Lana Felder and Risa Daniels “Daniel De Los Santos” all of Cuero, sisters, Louise Coulter of Weir, Vivian Terrell of Victoria, Betty Billings of Cuero, brother, Charles Hotz “Dorothy” of Cuero, 12 treasured grandchildren and 4 cherished great-grandchildren and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
