Obituary for Marie M. Rawls

Marie M. Rawls, 76, of Gonzales, Texas passed away at her residence on Monday, April 29, 2013. Funeral Services are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales, Texas and will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 10:30 am at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Gonzales, Texas with Reverend Larry West officiating. Interment will follow at the Pilgrim Cemetery in Pilgrim, Texas. There will be a Family Visitation Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 6:00 ~ 8:00 pm at Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales, Texas. Marie was born March 11, 1937 in Highlands, Texas. She was the daughter of Hinds Stockton and Blanche Eves (Denny) Muldrow. She Graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas, and was a member of the Robert E. Lee Marching Brigadiers Brigade. Marie married John Rawls on January 6, 1956 in Highlands, Texas. They lived in Highlands until they moved to Cedar Bayou, Texas in 1975. Marie and John moved to Gonzales in 1979. Marie began taking art lessons in Bastrop, Texas and began showing her paintings at banks and art galleries. She had showings at River Art Gallery La Villita in San Antonio, New Braunfels Art Gallery, and the Gonzales Bank. Marie also had showings in Luling, Wimberley, Gruene, Lackland Air Force Base, Blanco, Caldwell, Bourne, Burnet, Austin, Elgin, Lockhart, Bastrop, Cuero, Victoria, Nixon, Texas. She had showings in Austria, Vermont, California, New Mexico, Utah, and the Catalina Islands. She attended the yearly family in Galveston. Her father owned the movie theater in Highlands, hence her love of movies. She was a wonderful cook and hostess who loved to travel and try other cuisine. Marie was a caring mother and grandmother who loved spoiling the grandchildren with candy and cookies. Her grandfather was a Confederate Veteran. Her family owned the first grocery store in Highlands. She was a San Antonio Spurs fan. Marie will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Marie is survived by her husband of 57 years, John Rawls, Sr., one son; John Rawls, Jr. and his wife, Esther of Nixon, three daughters; Marilyn Sparks and her husband, Ronnie of San Antonio, Robin Lester of Gonzales, Texas, Heather Rawls and her fiancée, Lance Spengler of San Antonio, six grandchildren; Jackie Oliphant, Ashley Rawls, Ross Lester, Vanna Lester, Katherine Rawls, John Stockton Rawls, one great-grandson; Mitchell McNabb, two brothers; Robert Muldrow and his wife, Myrna of Highlands, and Glen Muldrow and his wife, Frances of Highlands, three sisters; Betty King Burnet, Ann Tisdale and her husband, John, Carol Smith and her husband, Howard. She was preceded in death by her parents; Hinds and Blanche Muldrow, one daughter; Jackie Rawls, one grandson; Eddie Oliphant, Jr. The family request memorials to: the Pilgrim Cemetery / P.O.
