Obituary for Manuela Garza

Manuela Garza, 78, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020. Manuela was born September 28, 1941 in Gonzales to Pedro Contreras, Sr, and Conception Castillo Contreras. She married Patricio “Pat” Garza on February 28, 1961 in Gonzales. Manuela was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Manuela grew up near Cost, Texas. She learned to cook and sew as a young girl and frequently would sew clothes for her dolls and sisters. She helped her dad pick pecans as well. After marrying Pat, her primary focus was raising her family of six children. The family suffered a loss of a son and brother and amidst this tragic loss Manuela’s faith held the family together and lead them through this difficult time.

Manuela loved to travel and work puzzles. She adored her family and cherished time shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving soul, generous beyond measure, a magnificent cook and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Manuela is survived by her loving family, husband, Pat Garza, Sr of Gonzales, daughter and son-in-law, Beatrice Ruiz and Hector of Gonzales, sons and daughter-in-law, Pat Garza, Jr of Austin, Joe Garza of Odessa, Danny Garza of Gonzales and Adam Garza and Jessica of Gonzales, brother and sister-in-law, Juan Contreras and Lupe of Waukau, WI, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Reynaldo Garza, sisters, Patsy Carrizales, Connie Contreras, Josephine Fernandez, Enrique Rodriguez, Tomasa Pineda and brother Manuel Contreras.

The family will receive friends in small numbers to comply with public health and CDC recommendations, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2020. Those in attendance will be expected to wear personal protective apparatuses such as a veil, scarf or suitable face covering to prevent the spread of Covid 19. A rosary and vigil service will follow at 11 a.m. with no more than 50 people in attendance. Interment will follow in Gonzales Memorial Park. Pallbearers: Garrett Ruiz, Jeremy Garza, Derrick Garza, David Pineda, Sr, David Pineda, Jr, and Adam Pineda. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.
