Manuela (Villasana) Alvarez, 97, of Gonzales, Texas passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014 at her residence. Funeral Mass is under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales, Texas and will be held on Friday, June 7, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gonzales, Texas with Father Martin Leopold officiating. Interment will follow at Saint James Catholic Cemetery in Gonzales, Texas. A Rosary Will be recited on Thursday, June 6, 2014 at 7:00 pm at the Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Gonzales, Texas with Lupe Saldana officiating. In loving memory of Manuela Villasana Alvarez. She was a loving mother, friend, caregiver, loving aunt, a loving and supportive wife. Manuela was born in Rosita, Mexico onMarch 26, 1917. She was the daughter of Jose Maria and Maria Luisa (Abriego) Villasana. Manuela married George Cortez Alvarez on February 14, 1938 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Gonzales, Texas. She enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family, and she loved caring for her grandchildren. Manuela was a member of the Alter Society and Guadalupana. Manuela is survived by one son; Raymond Alvarez of Austin, Texas, three daughters; Martina Juarez and her husband, Adolph of Shiner, Texas, Mary Esparza and her husband, Thomas of Gonzales, Texas, Augustina Solis and her husband, John, Sr. of Cuero, twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren and seventeen great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband; George Alvarez, two sons; Gilbert Alvarez, Sr., Refugio Alvarez, one daughter; Epfania Mary Alvarez, three grandchildren; Gilbert Alvarez, Jr., Gabriel L. Alvarez, Raymond Alvarez, Jr., and two daughters-in-law; Delia Leal Alvarez, Wanda Alvarez.
