Obituary for June Richards

June Richards, 102, of Waelder, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018. She was born January 13, 1916 in Gonzales County the daughter of John Reed Carmichael and Verdie Estelle Rasor Carmichael. She married Harper Clyde Richards on November 7, 1938 in Gonzales. After raising her children she graduated from nursing school in Gonzales and became a licensed vocational nurse. She worked at the Sievers Convalescent Home, Holmes Hospital, Warm Springs Hospital during the Polio outbreak and later the Cartwheel Lodge Nursing Home. She retired in the late 1980’s. She was a member of Life Changing Church. She was known for her artistic talent as a painter and captured many beautiful flowers and landscapes. She enjoyed working on the ranch, gardening and was known for her “Green Thumb” planting a huge garden every year. Most of all she loved cooking for her family and was especially remembered for her turkey and dressing which was the world’s best. Her greatest joy was time spent with her loving family. She is survived by her daughter Martha Dale Hooker and husband Joe of Waelder; son David Clyde Richards of Martindale; sister Virginia Hallmark of Giddings; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Jenny Nell Reeves, sisters: Dorothy Wright, Rebecca French, Estelle Overstreet and Mary Jane Carmichael; brothers: Hugh Carmichael and John Carmichael. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Brother Ray Remmers officiating. Interment will follow at the Thompsonville Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Preston Richter, Colton Richter, Jonathan Atkinson, J.C. Reeves, Billy Reeves, Aubri Atkinson, Colt Richards and Jacey Richards. Arrangements under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, Gonzales.
