Obituary for Gerald Tieken

Gerald Tieken, 83, of Gonzales, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. He was born March 4, 1937 to Otto and Annie Englebach Tieken in Gonzales and married Charlotte Louise Benes on August 18, 1958 in Gonzales. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Gonzales.

Gerald attended school in Gonzales until the 8th grade. He then took on the responsibility to help his family, along with his siblings, of working on the dairy farm where they lived. He stayed true to the dairy business for over 40 years. Going from making home deliveries for Sanitary Creamery, then onto Superior Dairies, and finally retiring from Borden Milk Company. Gerald was not the typical hunter or fisherman; he enjoyed his “simple” lifestyle, which consisted of spending his time surrounded by his family and friends.

Gerald Tieken is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlotte L. Tieken of Gonzales, their only son, Gerald Duane Tieken and wife Barbara of La Grange, sisters, Jeannie Koenning of St. Hedwig, Lisetta Tharp and husband Larry of Gonzales, twin brother, Harold Tieken and wife Betty of Gonzales, brothers, Donald Tieken and wife Annie of Gonzales, Dale Tieken and wife Martha of San Antonio, brother-in-law, Charles Bolton of Luling, sister-in-law, Patsy Tieken, granddaughter, Megan Kaye Benson and husband Jason, and great-grandson, Jackson Benson, all of Dripping Springs, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Dolly Ann Vasquez, Lena Rose Vaughan, Charlissa Bolten, brothers, Otto Tieken, Jr., John Henry Tieken, Holmes William Tieken, and James Lynn Tieken.

A visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 2:00 PM in Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastor Ildiko Rigney officiating. Due to current CDC, State and local mandates, protective measures regarding social distancing, limited attendance capacity and the use of personal protective masks will be required for the visitation and graveside burial rite.
