Obituary for George David Holcombe

George David Holcombe, 82, of Gonzales, Texas passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at his daughter s residence in Waco, Texas. Funeral Services are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales, Texas and will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 10:30 am at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Gonzales, Texas with Reverend Clyde Polbrack officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 pm at New Bremen Cemetery in Karnes City, Texas. George was born on December 7, 1931 in Karnes City, Texas. He was the son of Chester Ray and Myrtle Cleo (Hall) Holcombe. George was a hard worker, taking care of his vegetable garden and chickens after having worked all day for the city of Austin s Street and Bridge Department. He retired after 27 ½ years with the Street and Bridge Department. It has been said that George was a wonderful harmonica player and that he could also stretch the truth in the stories he told. George is survived by two daughters: Sharon Teague and her husband, Harvey of Waco, Texas, Almeta Carter and her husband, Charles of Caldwell, Texas, one son: Curtis Jones and his wife, Cheryl of Elgin, Texas, two brothers: Calvin Holcombe and his wife, Beaulah of Victoria, Texas, Virgle Holcombe and his wife, Doris of Luling, Texas, six grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents: Chester Ray and Myrtle Cleo Holcombe, his lady companion: Juanita Williamson, one sister: Bertha Jurek, four brothers: John Fred Holcombe, Nolan Laverne Holcombe, Fred Holcombe and Lester Holcombe.
