Obituary for Evelyn Ann Gottwald (Breitschopf)
Evelyn Ann Gottwald of Harwood Texas passed away on Aug 14, 2019 at age of 87. She was born on Dec 9, 1932 to Ludwig Frank and Mary Schumann Breitschopf of Harwood. Evelyn attended schools in Harwood and Gonzales. Evelyn continued her education earning a Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Southwest Texas State College. She married Norwood Hoover Gottwald on July 17, 1951 and they resided in Harwood. There they raised two sons, Kenneth Gottwald and Darrell Gottwald.
Evelyn worked for Gonzales ISD as a first-grade teacher for 34 years. During her time, she taught over 700 students and was passionate about each and every one of them. She enjoyed spending her lunch with her students and ensuring that all of her students were successful. After retirement her main passion was the farm which has been in the family since 1876. While working on the farm she could be found raising orphan calves, hand feeding cubes, and ensuring all the many other animals were well taken care of. At home she was known to tend a large garden which she would share with the community. When not on the farm or in the garden she was found cooking large meals for the family and community. She was well known for her cakes, pies and tamales.
Evelyn was a longtime secretary for the Harwood Cemetery Association and took great pride in the maintenance and upkeep of the cemetery grounds. She was often found at the Harwood Community Center especially during the Harwood Homecoming.
Evelyn is survived by her two sons Kenneth and wife Sue of Gonzales and Darrell of Harwood. Three grandsons Ross and wife Sarah of Gonzales, James and wife Katy of Bryan and Steven and wife Ashlie of Gonzales. Three Great Grandchildren Emily, Addilyn, and Cassidy of Gonzales and her sister-n-law, Allie Sue Gottwald of Los Cruces, NM.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Norwood, her sister, Frances Hopper, and her infant brother, Ludwig Ernest Breitschopf.
Services for Evelyn Ann Gottwald will be Friday Aug 16, 2019 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home in Gonzales at 2:00 PM. Services will be performed by Rev. Dr. Matt Pennington. Pallbearers are Ross Gottwald, James Gottwald, Steven Gottwald, Fred Hopper, Clint Fairchild, and Travis Fairchild. Interment will be at Harwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harwood Cemetery Association or Harwood Community Center.
