Obituary for Enriqueta Soliz Valdez
Enriqueta Soliz Valdez “Queta”, of Gonzales, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023. She was born on September 4, 1940, in Agualeguas, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to her parents Alejandro Soliz and Ruperta Villareal Soliz. She came with her family to Texas as a child and attended school in Gonzales before working with her siblings in the fields and working odd jobs to help support her family. Enriqueta grew up going to church and would become very active in the Catholic community.
She met her loving husband Santos Valdez in Gonzales; they married on August 23, 1958, and grew their family with two children, David and Alice Valdez. Enriqueta and her husband Santos worked at the local dry cleaners in Gonzales until they owned and operated the business themselves, the ran the business for 35 years and retired in 2005. She was a seamstress by trade, and she used her profession to help the business grow through the years.
Enriqueta grew up going to church and became very active in the Catholic community. She was a eucharist minister for many years, she was also a member of the Guadalupanas and member of the adult choir at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Her hobbies included cooking for her family, especially for the holidays as she loved making tamales. Enriqueta loved going to the casinos with her close friends and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to meeting her latest great-grandson Noah who will be born later this month. She was a woman of faith and family, her smile and laughter that warmed the heart of many will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Santos Valdez, her parents Alejandro Soliz and Ruperta Villareal Soliz. She is survived by her son David Valdez, her daughter Alice Valdez Love, her siblings Silvia Fernandez, Dominga Gonzalez, Julie Mendez, and Alejandro Soliz, Jr., her grandchildren David Anthony Valdez from Memphis, TN, Derrick Anthony Valdez and his wife Jennifer from New Braunfels, TX, Cody Knox Love from Luling, TX, her great-grandchildren Stella James Valdez, Gage Valdez, Derrick Anthony Valdez, Jr., Izaiah Cruz, Sophia Valdez.
A visitation will be held at Seydler – Hill Funeral Home Sunday, January 8, 2023, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm with a rosary following at 6:00pm. A Mass of The Resurrection will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Monday, January 9, 2023, at 10:00am. Interment will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery.
