Obituary for Ello Adolph Filip

Ello Adolph Filip, 97, of Gonzales, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021. Ello was born January 12, 1924 in Shiner to Frank J. Filip and Mary Pany Filip. He married Betty Jane McVea on May 12, 1951 in Gonzales. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

Ello was raised near the Dilworth Community where his father farmed. He went to work at a service station as a young man and then Coca-Cola Bottling Company, the Gonzales Fire Department and a 33-year career with the Texas State Highway Department followed. He loved to garden, fish, play his accordion and listen to polka music. Ello could fix anything mechanical. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of auto mechanics with young men who needed help maintaining or repairing their engines, carburetors and brakes. Ello had magnificent critical thinking skills and could easily identify problems by analyzing and troubleshooting problems not just mechanical, but in life as well. He taught his son the significance of a man’s word and that doing the right thing is seldom easy. Ello never met a stranger and was always willing to help another, values that appear to be waning in an age distinctly different from his own.

Ello Adolph Filip is survived by his son Dennis Grey Filip of San Antonio, and sister, Edna Allen of Austin. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister, Viola Filip, and brothers, Oscar and Leroy Filip.
