Obituary for David Ray Malatek

David Ray Malatek, 71, of Gonzales, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 6, 2022. David was born July 31, 1950 in Shiner, Texas to Eddie Malatek, Sr, and Rosie Pekar Malatek. He married Debbie S. Gerloff on August 16, 1983 in Victoria. David honorably served his country in the United States Army amidst the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

David was a devoted family man servant of his community. He had been very active in Little League while coaching his daughter Tiffany. He helped direct the Elks Hoop Shoot event for numerous years and enjoyed taking kids to the Regional, State and National championships. He delighted in talking to his daughter everyday especially setting the tone for the always exciting game between the Cowboys and 49ers. Time away with Debbie to Louisiana and the Golden Nugget Casino was always fun with many fond memories made along the way. David loved to cook, and his delicious BBQ chicken was renown and celebrated throughout the family. He spoiled Debbie as David did all the housekeeping chores, grocery shopping, and lawn care. He was a tough Texan man’s man, but deep-down David was a gentle and thoughtful man. David loved to play dominoes with his friends on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and enter into domino tournaments with them as well. David’s nickname was “Shuppy” and he loved to give everyone nicknames. His nicknames were an expression of love, and though his nicknames may fade with time, his love of family and friends will endure forever.

David is survived by his adoring family; wife of 38 years, Debbie Malatek of Gonzales, daughter, Tiffany Malatek of Victoria, grandchildren, Seth Brzozowski and Ryland Lowe, brother, Eddie Malatek, Jr. (Marla), of Gonzales, sister-in-law, Diann Taylor of Gonzales, brother-in-law, Arlon Hester, sister-in-law, Rona Beck (Glenn), brother-in-law, Billy Benes of Gonzales, brother-in-law, David Gerloff, numerous nieces and nephews, Brittney Cook, Alexis Cantu Benes, Carly Hester, Kyle Hester, Travus Locke, and Wendy Janka, and special friends, Candice Molnoskey, Nancy Zuniga, Ray, Kim, and Kaylee Lamb.
