Obituary for Celedonio "Joe" Martinez
Celedonio “Joe” Martinez, 65, of Gonzales, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021. He was born March 3, 1955 in Matehuala, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, the son of Epimenio Martinez Sanjuana Garcia. Later, Joe married Luisa Villanueva on March 9, 1982.
Joe believed family always came first, and in the principles of integrity, generosity and hard work. He instilled these values in his children. Joe worked as a mechanic at Marrou’s of Gonzales for several years, before joining Covert Chevrolet in Bastrop. His love of fast cars, fishing and good Peruvian food brought joy to his life.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Luisa Martinez of Gonzales; daughter Marisa Leon and husband Arthur of New Braunfels; sons Jose Miguel Martinez of Houston and Juan Carlos Martinez of Mexico; grandchildren Madison Leon and Cameron Leon; sisters Esther Martinez, Virginia Martinez and Raquel Martinez all of Mexico.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2021 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at St. James Catholic Cemetery with Reverend Jason Martini officiating. Pallbearers include: Juan Serna, Miguel Martinez, Alex Santizo, Arthur Leon, Filadelfo Chavez and Dennis Motal.
Due to current CDC, State and local mandates, protective measures regarding social distancing, limited attendance capacity, and use of personal protective masks will be required for the visitation, chapel service and graveside burial rite. Those remotely symptomatic of COVID-19 are politely asked not to attend.
