Obituary for Catherine Menking (Irle)

Catherine Menking, 89, of Gonzales, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020. She was born November 18, 1930 in Gonzales the daughter of Buster John Irle and Clara Corrine Richter. She married Freddie Samuel Menking on April 1, 1952 in Gonzales.

Catherine started work at the young age of 13 when she went to the local cotton mill to secure a job. This strong work ethic defined her for the rest of her life. She was employed by the Gonzales Independent School District cafeteria for many years along with working side by side with her husband Freddie on their farm.

She was a very dedicated and devout Christian and was a member of the Full Gospel Church. Family and friends would often call or visit to ask for prayer, and she was always there for them. She loved raising plants, listening to Christian music and was known as a great cook. Most of all she treasured her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She loved to spoil her grandkids, even to the point of making milkshakes for breakfast.

She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Corrine Menking Nall; son Freddie Samuel Menking Jr. and wife Deborah all of Gonzales; 5 Grandchildren and 6 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Clara Bailey and son-in-law Jack Nall.

Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2020 with funeral services following at 2 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Pastor David Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at the Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Greg Nall, Jarrid Boehm, Chris Kutac, Bryce Nall, Ricky Logan and Jeff Stewart.

Due to current CDC, State and local mandates, protective measures regarding social distancing, limited attendance capacity, and use of personal protective masks will be required for the visitation, chapel service and graveside burial rite. Services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
