Celebrating the Life of Candelaria C. Hidalgo

Candelaria C. Hidalgo went peacefully to be with our Lord on April 21, 2023. She was
surrounded by her family in her home. Cande or Grandma, as she was known to many, was born
on February 2, 1928, to Secondino and Petra Camarillo in Gonzales, Texas. She lived in
Gonzales throughout her life and was married to Ricardo O. Hidalgo for 49 years. Cande was a
devoted Christian and a woman of strong faith whose prayers blessed many generations. She was
a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and a
friend to many.

Cande enjoyed spending time with family and she delighted everyone with her humor, wisdom,
and countless stories. Her ageless beauty was appreciated by everyone she met and she always
greeted everyone with a smile and a conversation. She enjoyed her plants, flowers, her novelas
and going to church. She would spend hours reading her Catholic Book of Prayers and her
family never left her home without getting a kiss and a blessing from her.
Cande is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her siblings: Angelita Morales, Joe
Camarillo, Amador Camarillo, and Mary Carrizales; her children Gloria Lopez, Richard Hidalgo
Jr., Jesse Hidalgo, and Olivia Hidalgo.

She leaves behind all who loved her and will miss her presence in their lives especially her
children: Rebecca Peralez (Roger Peralez), Rosie Hidalgo (Jessica Gonzalez) and John Hidalgo
(Alison Maddox); her siblings: Johnny Camarillo (Aida Camarillo) and Molly Steen; her 16
grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and
nephews.

The family of Candelaria Hidalgo wish to thank St. James Catholic Church, and friends and
family who came from near and far to celebrate such a beautiful life.
The family would to like to especially thank her niece Sally Rodriguez for caring for her
throughout her health journey, and Abby Dillard and the staff at Heart to Heart Hospice for their
compassion, support, and love.
