Barbara Kay Hicks of San Marcos, age 67, entered into rest on May 30, 2019. She was born December 4, 1951 in Gonzales to Herman and Annie Mae. Barbara is preceded in death by her father Herman Alex Jr., mother Annie Mae Wilke Bond and sister Katherine Ann Alex. She is survived by her husband Ted Thomas Hicks; sibling Patricia Robinson; children with Gerald, Brandy Green, Jennifer Carson, and Greg Burger; grandchildren, Dylan Green, Tristan Green, Lilah Carson, and soon to be born Baby Girl Burger. She is also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews. As a young girl, she could usually be found frolicking through the garden barefoot and spending time with her sister. Barbara was a selfless woman, always giving more than she received. She managed many tasks throughout her life, but her most honorable role was being a mother. With three children, her plate was always full but she enjoyed and cherished every minute with them. She was involved in many things, she served as President of the Katy Youth Basketball League and Williamsburg Elementary PTO. Barbara coached basketball for all three of her children and was fully involved in all of their activities. Barbara was said to have never met a stranger. She enjoyed socializing with everyone, and just generally loved people. Folks always knew when Barbara was around because her warm personality and boisterous manner would always brighten every room. Barbara and Ted were absolute best friends. They had the best times deciding what to plant in their garden, with Barbara trying her hardest to keep the deer from eating her flowers and shrubs. Their most cherished memories might be those they had on the dance floor, dancing all night and holding each other close. Barbara’s life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2019 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Jesse Elizondo officiating. Interment will follow in Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home prior to the service. Pallbearers include: Chris Green, Paul Carson, Justin Blackmon, David Spratley, Tony Acosta, Derek Hunt and Gary Shimek. Honorary pallbearers include two grandsons, Dylan and Tristan Green.
