Obituary for Audrey Helen Lassig

Audrey Helen Lassig was born November 9, 1944, to Ora and Mary Lee Bundick in
Seguin, Texas. She spent most of her childhood in Kyle, Texas, in a house just blocks from her
grandparents Pappy and Nanny, to whom Helen was very close. She was raised in a joyful,
close-knit family, and she spent many weekends during the school year and weeks during the
summer with her aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins. In later years, the family would gather to
celebrate Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Nanny’s birthday, something Helen always
enjoyed.

In December 1964, Helen met Wayne Lassig at a friend’s party. Magic happens when
you least expect it, and lives change forever. The handsome young man left for basic training in
Louisiana in January, and proposed when he came home on leave in March. They were married
on July 17, 1965.

Newly married, Helen and Wayne moved to Austin, Texas, where they bought the house
on Gillis Street that would be their home until Wayne’s passing in 2019. They welcomed two
children into their lives, Larry and Stacy, who consider themselves fortunate to have had them
for parents.

Helen had many talents, in addition to being a wonderful mother. She was an excellent
dancer, and watching her dance with Wayne was a true joy. She could tell a great joke and, since
she worked with car salesmen, she always seemed to have a new one. Helen never forgot a date –
she remembered everyone’s birthday, anniversary, and every important milestone. When she was
10 years old, she was taught to cook by an uncle who had been a cook in the Civilian
Conservation Corps during the Depression. Her family has always been grateful to Uncle Jack
for her fabulous cooking.

And, most importantly, she loved people with her whole heart, and they loved her.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Wayne Lassig; her
parents; and her brother Wayne Bundick. She is survived by her son Larry Lassig and his wife
Amber; her daughter Stacy Holley and her husband Adam, and by her grandson Andrew Holley;
her sister Annette Lange and her husband Mike; sisters-in-law JoAnn Lapetina, Patsy Holmes,
and Carolyn Lassig; brother-in-law James Lassig and his wife Mona; and many nieces and
nephews.
The family would like to thank her caregiver Cari Reynolds, who Helen loved and who
brought her much joy in the last year of her life.
